In today's society the producers have to keep up with the ever changing society. One major change is the way they keep audiences watching. In shows such as American Idol or Survivor they wait until the very end of the show to reveal who made it on or who is going home. The purpose of this is to keep the viewers to stick it through the commercials so they don't miss the final result. In today's society people will do just about anything to avoid watching commercials whether it be changing the channel or getting up to go do something. If the advertisers want to be successful they need to figure out what the consumers dislikes are about advertising and figure out a way to hook a viewer, to stay on that pacific channel. My opinion sways both ways for telling the viewer how long the break is. One point, maybe that the consumer will change the channel for close to exactly that time because they will actually know how long the actual commercial break is. It also could make the viewer feel there is no point in getting up or turning the channel so it could benefit the advertiser. In both cases it's a good way to make the viewer feel if they do change the channel they could miss the show!

Due to the variety of topics I am able to talk about I feel it is very appropriate to talk about advertising T.V. commercials. After doing countless of advertising worksheets and learning many of the techniques it has become more clear to me. Now having the knoweldge of what the advertisers attempt to do for a good commercial. It has made it obvious to me that most commercials are so one-sided that it is annoying! If the public/consumers were better informed about commercials, it would set a higher standard for the advertisers. People would understand the behind the scenes work done and actually be able to determine their wants from their needs. With the consumers be better informed it will cause the advertisers to have complete truth in their product. In the society we live in today, it is easy for advertisers to blind the truth, Which, in turn, creates a false/ideal product. In conclusion, in the market society we live in today, consumers need to be better informed/ take media literature with Mrs. Sheldon!

I fell in love with this commercial! It was so funny! My view on product placement is very for it. It is a way for the show/movie to make money. At the same time the financial risk for the product is way more rewarding because I feel people actually do go out and buy the product. Teenagers I feel are the ones who are most effected. For example when a girl sits down to watch The Hills on MTV and they see their favorite character wearing a certain pair of jeans then they may want to go buy those jeans just for that reason. Most teens don't even realize their being sucked in by that product. Like if you see a coke can over and over in TV shows the next time your ordering a pop, you are more likely to get a coke because of the security that it is a popular kind of pop. Though product placement might not always catch one persons eye, I feel someone is always being affected so it is worth the effort.

Putting a number to the amount of ads I see on a daily basis is impossible. Everywhere I look I could find an ad about some product whether it's a expensive product or a cheap product. As I was writing this blog I was flipping through the channels, a picture of Joe Mauer popped up. Then below him hitting a home run was a number to call for Twins tickets and a web site. This showed the American core value of Achievement and success. It showed the Minnesota native being successful, hoping this would attract fans to buy tickets. The ad was very eye appealing yet it was simple enough that there wasn't to many distractions so you wouldn't miss the number. This commericial was directed towards Minnesotans ages 20-30, and a caucasion male. This was a great commericial because even though I wasn't part of the main getters, they caught my attention.
I also listened to a radio commericial from National American University. Before they even said the schools name I knew exactly who it was because of the TV commerical they have. I love commericials like this because I feel they work the best because it is hard to get them out of your head. This commericial is directed towards males around the age of 17-25 for people who are preparing to go to college either full time or part time. I enjoy this commericial very much because it is so catchy.
I feel making an ad to sell a product would be very difficult. Whether its a billboard where you have about 5 seconds to catch the drivers eye or a radio commericial to get them to listen to your commericial before they change the station. So I give props to all the ad creaters out there because all these commericials do a great job catching my eye.

The media is constantly bombarding us with media every day of our lives. There is no denying that it affects everyone, but how much is debatable. When you see something over and over again, you get used to it and stop paying much attention to it. We see the media stereotype women as weaker than men. We get used to seeing this in the media, so when we see it in our lives, we don’t think about it as much, so we don’t realize how are actions are affected by these images and stereotypes. The opposite happens when our dominant culture is attacked. For example, if a women raped a man, it would be the headlines of many medias. Since we see things like women being the weaker sex, it occurs so much that we don't pay attention to it. My point is we don’t realize this affect these images are having on us so there is no way to measure how much of an influence these stereotypes have on our society.

The television show I chose to watch was Sportscenter. I chose Sportscenter, because I watch this show every morning before school. There were numerous American Core Values used in this television broadcast.
The one they used the most was achievement and success. Measured by our accomplishments, this is the main idea of this television show. Every day they show highlights and give stats of the top players, of almost every sport.
Another value that they used was activity and work. All the professional athletes on Sportscenter, get paid to play their sport. They play these sports because they love to do so and also because they get paid a substantial amount that gives them an abundance of leisure-time.
Progress, is another major value they use on Sportscenter. If you watch Sportscenter as much as I do, you get to watch players grow and develop as they go from high school, to college, and to the professionals. Every athlete strives to be better, to be the best you must always improve.
When you think of professional athletes, you think of material comfort. On Sportscenter you get to see what is known as, "the good life." Showing all their jewelry and fancy cars, makes them an icon to young kids everywhere.
These are the main American Core Values used in the television show, Sportscenter, today.
(Though other days you may be able to find every single on of them.)

Blog #2 Children and the Media
Actually this video concerned me a lot. To me, this video makes it feel like kids grow up way too fast and they don't even to live the life of a child. It is scary to think you have to parental everything your child watches to make sure he is not being corrupted.
I feel it is only going to get worse as time passes, so if someone doesn't do something about it, who knows what will happen to our society. With the media attacking such a young population, it's not easy to know if the kids are able to tell a lie from the truth.

Blog #1 (notecards)
After looking at all my note cards, many of my answers to the questions are very similar. To me, it seemed that my grandpa had all the wise answers that were very thought out. My mom and dad were very similar, because there the same age. Since they were all blood related to me we all have a lot in common, like we all love to watch TV and listen to similar music. They also all concurred on, the fact that, media plays a big role in all of there lives and that you have to make sure you know what is real and what are lies.
